Got you interested?

Brilliant. The next step is to talk to us. Attend one of our campus events, or call us up for a chat.

When you’re ready, click on APPLY NOW to submit an application. You’ll need to provide some information about your background, education and why you want to take part.

The next step is a phone interview where you’ll speak directly with a Teach For Australia staff member.

If that goes well, you’ll be invited to attend a Selection Day where there’ll be more interviews, a group case study, a teaching lesson and a problem solving activity.

We’ll take the most outstanding applicants from this stage (including you, hopefully) and work to match you to a school where your passion, knowledge and leadership skills are most needed. If you’re successful from here, congratulations!

You’ve just joined the most ambitious leadership program in Australia.

Here’s some more important detail....

Key Dates and Events

Applications for our 2013/14 will open soon.

For information on campus events near you, go to our EVENTS section.

Application Pre-requisites

Australian citizenship or permanent residency

Teach For Australia can only accept applications from candidates who are Australian citizens or who hold Australian permanent residency at the time of applying. Unfortunately there can be no exceptions to this.

Applicants holding student, tourist or bridging visas (including bridging visas issued after lodging a claim for permanent residency) are not eligible to apply. We are unable to provide sponsorship for Associates. All candidates who progress beyond the initial application stage are required to provide evidence of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

No current eligibility to teach

The Teach For Australia program is specifically designed for individuals who have not completed a qualification that allows them to teach. In order to apply, you must therefore not be studying towards, or have already completed, a qualification that will allow you to teach.

You are not eligible to apply for this program if you hold a degree or diploma related to secondary education or are currently enrolled in such a program, as you already meet the requirements for entry into the teaching profession in Australia.

Successful completion of a bachelor's degree

You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree (in any subject area other than education) by November 2011 to apply.

The Selection Process

The Teach For Australia selection process is outlined below.

Step 1: Online application

The online application requires personal and academic information, along with answers to several questions regarding your motivations and experience. You are able to view the application before commencing. Please allow approximately 1.5 hours to complete the application. Applicants are able to commence their application, save information and return to complete the form at a later date.

Please note that the online application system will automatically log out after a period of inactivity, so remember to regularly save your responses while completing the form.

Step 2: Telephone Interview

If you are successful at the application stage, you may be invited to participate in a 20-minute telephone interview with a Teach For Australia staff member. This behavioural interview will further explore your background and experiences, along with your motivations for applying to Teach For Australia. The telephone interview will be conducted at a mutually convenient time, usually within two weeks of the application closing date.

We will endeavour to inform you of the outcome of your telephone interview within one week.

Step 3: Selection Day

If you are invited to attend a Selection Day, you will be required to attend in person. To help you prepare, we will provide you with additional information about how best to succeed on the day.

The Teach For Australia Selection Day has been designed in a way that allows all candidates to demonstrate their strengths in a professional yet relaxed environment. Over the course of the day, each candidate will complete two behavioural interviews, a group activity, a sample teaching lesson, and a problem solving test. You'll also have the opportunity to learn more about Teach For Australia and our vision while interacting with a variety of people within our organisation.

Offer and beyond

If you are successful at the Selection Day, you will be made an offer to participate in the program. Your offer will be conditional upon us matching you to a suitable placement school. If you are still studying, your offer will also be conditional upon the successful completion of your undergraduate degree.

The 2013 Teach For Australia program will commence with the Initial Intensive at the end of November 2012 and conclude mid - January 2013. Associates join their schools at the beginning of the school year, towards the end of January 2013.
