There’s no 'ideal' candidate profile, and it doesn’t matter if you’re a degree graduate or a working professional. We look for leaders who have the qualities to create change – within the classroom and beyond. Can you rise to the challenge?
Our program is highly selective. Since Teach For Australia began three years ago, we’ve received over 2,000 applications for Associate positions. Fewer than 10% of these were successful in becoming an Associate.
This is partly because our selection process is very rigorous and partly because the stakes are too high to admit anyone other than the highest-quality candidates.
We’ve received over 2,000 applications for Associate positions. Fewer than 10% of these were successful in becoming an Associate.
The success of Teach For Australia’s mission depends entirely on the integrity, passion and commitment of the person in front of each classroom.
Consequently, we seek leaders who will have a wider impact on the students they serve and the communities they’re a part of, and who have a long-term vision of how they can lead the kind of ambitious change we’re looking for.
In particular, we seek individuals with the qualities required to succeed as a Teach For Australia Associate:
Achievement: Have you gained significant, measurable results in school and university, extracurricular activities, and/or work? Have you demonstrated leadership in your endeavours?
Commitment to impact: Are you eager to bring about change and make a difference in the lives of the students you teach? Do you passionately believe in the power of education?
Communication and influencing ability: Are you a clear and confident communicator, and are you able to influence and motivate others? Are you an active listener? Do you want to build these skills?
Problem solving: Are you able to think critically, analyse information and generate relevant solutions to problems? Do you want to build these skills?
Organisational skills: Are you able to plan and organise your activities to effectively meet deadlines?
Resilience: Are you willing to work hard with resilience and optimism to overcome obstacles? Do you relish a challenge and are you driven to succeed?
Humility and Learning: Do you show respect towards the perspectives and experiences of others, particularly those from different backgrounds? Are you open to learning from others and do you seek out opportunities to do so?
We recognise that these skills and attributes can be developed through a range of experiences, so there is no one profile of an ideal applicant. If you are interested in our program and answered yes to several of the above, we encourage you to apply.
