General information

Teach For Australia is committed to attracting outstanding graduates (called Associates) into schools. Associates will add to the richness and diversity of the school workforce and strive to enable their students to achieve their full potential.

Our Associates undertake rigorous teacher preparation, provided by the University of Melbourne's Graduate School of Education using a clinical practice model, along with leadership development to extend their ability to lead in the classroom and beyond. We believe that this approach develops exceptional teachers.

During their two year commitment to the Teach For Australia program and to their placement schools, Associates are supported by Teach For Australia and the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, in partnership with participating schools to enable them to confront possible steep learning curves and have a strong positive impact on their classes and the wider school enviroment.

The Teach For Australia program provides participating schools with:

Access to a pool of high-calibre, motivated graduates selected for the seven key competencies: achievement (academic and leadership); resilience; humility; communication; problem solving; organisation and commitment to educational disadvantage shown to be indicative of success in the classroom.

A robust and continuously developing knowledge-base of current research on teaching and learning due to Associates' ongoing academic studies with the University of Melbourne.

Leadership development and wider professional development opportunities in the school through masters-level mentor training and Associate leadership development courses.

Opportunity for existing teachers to particpate in mentor education programs.

The Teach For Australia program is open to educationally disadvantaged secondary schools from all sectors.
