Mentor education

We are committed to ensuring that Associates are placed in supportive school environments. A key part of this is the role of a mentor in the school (In-School Mentor).

The Principal selects an In-School Mentor for each Associate who has the skills and capacity to support the Associate on a day-to-day basis.

The In-School Mentor receives funded training from the University of Melbourne's Graduate School of Education (MGSE). This requires a commitment of five days over the two years (3+2).

In-School Mentors may choose to complete the training in assessed or non-assessed modes. If they successfully complete the assessed mode they are awarded a Professional Certificate in Education (Teach For Australia Mentoring) from MGSE.

Mentors must have a time release of 2-4 hours in Year 1 and 1-2 hours in Year 2 to enable them to actively support their Associate.

The Associate's Training and Leadership Adviser and Clinical Specialist work closely with the In-School Mentor to support and develop the Associate together.
