Who we are

Teach For Australia is an independent not-for-profit, charitable organisation supported by both public and private sector partners. We are a public company limited by guarantee, registered in 2008 under the Corporations Act. Our charitable purpose and mission are defined in our constitution and we have tax concession charity status as defined by the Australian Taxation Office.

The genesis of Teach For Australia is the result of years of work by a number of individuals on all sides of politics and from all sectors of society, united by a commitment to better educational outcomes for disadvantaged children throughout Australia. Founding CEO Melodie Potts Rosevear has been involved with the program since its earliest inception and wrote the original business plan for the organisation while completing her Masters studies at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

As with any social enterprise, the individuals and organisations that have contributed to our success are too many to name comprehensively. However early supporters included the Cape York Institute, Macquarie University, The Boston Consulting Group, Corrs Chambers Westgarth Lawyers and the Victorian government.

Teach For Australia is also affiliated with other similar organisation through Teach For All, an international network of independent social enterprises that are working to expand educational opportunity by enlisting their most promising future leaders in the effort. Partners in the network commit to sharing best practices and other resources in furtherance of a common mission.
