Program requirements

All candidates must meet four criteria to be eligible to apply for the Leadership Development program.

  • You must be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident at time of applying (New Zealand citizens must have Australian Permanent Residency at the time of applying);
  • You must hold a Bachelor degree in a discipline other than teaching by end of the year;
  • You must be willing to accept a placement within one of our jurisdictions; and
  • Be able to enrol in at least two* learning areas (see below).

Learning areas

We are committed to placing subject specialists in classrooms that need them. However, placement depends on both school demand and what you are qualified to teach, or learning areas.

The learning areas you’re eligible to enrol in depend on your prior academic study and on your placement jurisdiction. During the selection process, Teach for Australia will assess your transcripts to determine your possible enrolment areas.

Learning areas close as accepted candidates fill our quotas within each learning area. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible to ensure we are still accepting applications for your learning area.
